Functional Safety Generalist

Location:

Role and Responsibilities:
- Safety Concept Development: Define and implement safety concepts across various stages of the product lifecycle, ensuring alignment with ISO 26262 or equivalent functional safety standards.
- Requirements Management: Develop, analyze, and manage safety requirements based on hazard and risk assessments. Ensure traceability from safety requirements to implementation and testing.
- Safety Analysis: Perform safety analysis (FMEA, FTA, and FMEDA) to identify and mitigate potential hazards in hardware and software systems.
- Testing and Validation: Collaborate with test engineers to define functional safety test plans, verification, and validation activities, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing.
- Process Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with safety processes and standards throughout the project lifecycle, including safety audits, reviews, and gap assessments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including design, software, and systems engineers to implement safety measures and to identify and mitigate functional safety risks.
- Training and Awareness: Provide training and support to engineering teams on functional safety concepts, principles, and requirements to ensure a robust safety culture.
Background In:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in functional safety engineering, ideally within the automotive or embedded systems industry.
- Proficiency with safety standards, especially ISO 26262, and a good understanding of IEC 61508.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of functional safety concepts, safety lifecycle, and methodologies.
- Familiarity with safety analysis techniques (e.g., FMEA, FTA, FMEDA).
- Knowledge of safety tools such as Medini Analyze, Ansys, or similar for safety analysis.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Functional Safety (e.g., Automotive Functional Safety Professional – AFSP) is a plus.
- Experience with safety-critical systems in automotive applications (e.g., powertrain, braking, ADAS).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity standards (e.g., ISO/SAE 21434) is a bonus.
