Software Automation Engineer

The Software Automation Engineer handles all aspects involved in the design of our quality products with a laser focus on driveline components. This is a position concentrating on our chassis and driveline systems and infusing new technologies into these products for our EV and ICE chassis.

Position Duties:

Candidates for consideration will focus on accelerating the use of automation in the simulation and software development processes to drive breakthroughs in development and testing efficiency.  The engineer will work with a variety of Dorleco software, controls, and simulation teams to understand their workflow of software development and virtual testing; then the engineer will develop desktop and cloud solutions to increase speed and robustness of the embedded control software build, simulation, and test pipeline.  Strong communication and interpersonal skills are needed to successfully propagate software automation throughout the controls community, creating a culture where each engineer uses these methods as part of their daily workflow.

  • Lead team to develop software and scripts to automate the build environment, simulation environment, and to verify and validate the embedded vehicle control software.
  • Create web-based tools and standard dashboards to share simulation and software build and test status information with development teams
  • Develop state-of-the-art cloud-based solutions for simulation and software build and test, utilizing High Performance Compute and cloud environments
  • Collaborate with the Dorleco IT, Software, and Data teams to research and roll out process, methods and tools associated with software simulation, build and test initiatives

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or computer science
  • 3+ year of Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow. This may include academic experience.
  • 3+ years programming background (Python, C, C++, Java, or Matlab m-script)
  • 3+ years of (combined) version control and automation (ClearCase, AccuRev, GitHub, Jenkins)
  • 1+ years (combined) usage of cloud-based tools (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Must be skilled at working in large team environments and interfacing with technical experts

Preferred experience and skills

  • PhD .degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Automotive / Computer Engineering or Controls related field
  • 3+ years (combined) experience in automotive controls or systems engineering
  • Experience in embedded controls in electrified vehicle systems, driver assist technologies
  • Experience in requirements definition, decomposition, design verification
  • Experience with hands-on software testing and problem solving in simulation, hardware in the loop systems, and prototype vehicles
  • Broad understanding of embedded control system design and analysis techniques
  • Experience with tools for:
    • Virtualization environment tools (Docker, Vagrant)
    • Deployment tools (Habitat, Chef)
    • Containerization (Kubernetes)
    • Automation (Jenkins)
  • Significant experience with Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow
  • Significant experience utilizing models to develop and verify mixed hardware & embedded software systems
  • Experience with CAN networks and tools (CANalyzer, CANape, ATI Vision, etc.)
  • Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technical analysis skills and the ability to create new solutions
  • Initiative, resilience, a strong work ethic and a desire for continuous learning
