EZPRES CAN KEYPAD
The EZPress CAN Keypad by Dorleco is a compact, automotive-grade input device that communicates over the CAN protocol. It features IP67-rated soft rubber keys with laser-etched icons, RGB LED backlighting, and configurable button layouts—built for EV, off-road, marine, and industrial applications.
EZPRES CAN KEYPAD
CAN-based keypad for endless customization
EZPres is a compact keypad based on the CAN protocol. It comes in a variety of button configurations that are made of automotive-grade soft rubber with lasered-etched icons.
The keypad is water- & dust-resistant and can be installed both inside and outside the cockpit. The use of RGB LED lights and the simplicity with which icons can be modified allow the user to customize each key in a variety of ways.
The keypads are affordable, flexible, robust, and reliable for a wide variety of applications, like automotive, off-road, marine, construction, and industrial.
HOW CAN KEYPADS WORK?
How Does a CAN Bus Keypad Work?
A CAN bus keypad converts physical key presses into CAN frame messages. Each button is mapped to a unique CAN ID, which any node on the network — such as a VCU or gateway ECU — can read and act upon. This replaces dozens of discrete wires with a single 2-wire bus.
Key Pressed by Operator
The operator presses a rubber key on the EZPress keypad. The tactile actuation is registered by the keypad’s internal microcontroller.
CAN Frame Transmitted
The keypad encodes the key ID, state (press/release), and optional hold duration into a standard CAN 2.0B message frame and places it on the CAN bus.
VCU or ECU Receives Message
The vehicle control unit (VCU)—for example, Dorleco’s ToughCase—reads the CAN message and executes the associated function: toggle output, change drive mode, etc.
LED Feedback Returned
The VCU sends a CAN message back to the EZPress keypad, instructing it to change the LED color of the key to confirm the action—closing the control loop for the operator.
