Government probes ARAI, ICAT in FAME-II subsidy misappropriation case

“The inquiry is now in progress. Procedural lapses and the role of officials that led to the funds being wrongly disturbed will be investigated,” Ministry of Heavy Industries Secretary Kamran Rizvi said on the sidelines of a government event today.

In relation to certain automakers’ violations of the Phased Manufacturing Programme criteria under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME-II) initiative, the Ministry of Heavy Industries is looking into the role of ARAI and ICAT.

“The inquiry is now in progress. “Investigations will be conducted into procedural shortcomings and the involvement of officials that resulted in the funds being unjustly disrupted,” Minister of Heavy Industries Secretary Kamran Rizvi declared today during a government function.

2019 saw the introduction of the FAME-II initiative by the government, which cost Rs 10,000 crore. In an effort to increase local production and the use of electric vehicles, the program offered subsidies to two-wheeler firms so they could produce electric vehicles in India.
